B.R.D. operates in one narrow market: postwar French design, where institutional programs intersect with the Reconstruction.
We build arguments through documentation analysis and archival research. An argument is the market and scholarly relevance an object acquires within a defined program of correlated objects (or ensemble).
Our work is defined by intellectual depth and a dedication to research driven by rigorous curiosity. That requires time; we believe this work does not scale and we emphasize continuity with a small, specialized group of individuals sharing the same commitment.
Our structure is capacity-constrained; research dictates direction. Our mandate limits active allocation to high-conviction and prospective arguments (propositions de synthèse). It prevents dilution over extended research horizons. Capital follows the same discipline: it flows to core arguments and, rarely, to tangential programs. Objects are documented, acquired, and placed.
No newsletter. No metrics-driven posting. We publish only structural news or primary research. Selected arguments occasionally appear as catalogs, essays and exhibitions.
